Dr Martin Jackson from Sheffield University delivered a LightForm Seminar at The University of Manchester on Friday 1 March 2019, entitled “Adventures in lowering the cost of titanium alloy components in the Steel City”.

The Sheffield Titanium Alloy Research (STAR) group at Sheffield University are working with the aerospace and automotive supply chain to help reduce the cost of titanium processing and improve the performance of critical titanium parts.

The seminar described emerging powder to product hybrid near net shape processes, such as FAST-forge and powder to wire processes such as Conform.

The seminar also discussed work with key industrial partners in order to better understand the effects of upstream forging and machining on component fatigue performance.
