Professor John Humphreys has recently passed away and will be sorely missed by his former colleagues, students, and friends. ‘FJH’ had an immense international reputation in the field of metallurgy for his fundamental work on deformation, texture and recrystallization of metals. He led this research area for many years, with his unique ability to deeply understand and distil the essence from highly complex problems.

It is with great sadness that The Department of Materials at Manchester says goodbye to one of our truly great scientists.
