Investigating cold dwell in Ti-834 and Ti6-4 for compressor disk components within the aerospace industry
Cold dwell causes creep deformation to occur at room temperature, lowering the overall fatigue life of the compressor disk. In the Aerospace industry control is of paramount importance, hence unexpected failure of this kind is unacceptable. My work involves analysing the microscopic strain localisation and slip activity during cold creep using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) based high resolution digital image correlation (HRDIC).
