In this project the effects of intermetallic compound particles on the formability and mechanical properties of the recycled 6xxx alloy will be investigated through modelling and experiments. Microstructurally, the intermetallic particles cause increased stress concentration and strain localization during the forming operation, resulting in damage in the nucleation and increased porosity. Therefore, controlling the microstructure through the particle size, distribution and texture has the potential to improve the ductility and formability of recycled 6xxx series aluminium alloys.
